Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 – 4 pm at the Port Angeles City Pier
Kids are an important part of Marathon weekend. Participants from all over the United States and many countries come to the Olympic Peninsula to run in the Marathon. These adults train all year long to be in shape to run the distance. Kids have the opportunity to run their own marathon!
Using the NODM mileage log, kids track 25 miles for 6 -10 weeks leading up to Marathon weekend. They set their own weekly goals, record their miles and earn rewards. On kids race day, the actual marathon course will be theirs and they will run their last 1.2 miles at City Pier under the same finish line as the marathon! All kids are welcome to participate in this fun run event.
In addition to exercising the body – we want kids to exercise their brains too. We have teamed up with the North Olympic Library to once again offer a reading log. The challenge is for kids to read a minimum of 20 minutes every day! Book tokens are awarded for every “bingo” and a free book from the library will be given to students who complete the entire log.
Our mission is to promote kids’ health and fitness and to promote the marathon weekend as a family festival.
“After three days, I finally had to peel off my daughters kids marathon t-shirt to wash it. She was so proud of her accomplishment that she wore her shirt and medal for two weeks straight. Our family traveled from Nevada to cheer for my mom and husband running the half marathon, but watching my girls participate in the kids marathon was the definite highlight for all of us.” Anne Newlin, Sparks, Nevada
